Pauline Lewis, President and CEO of oovoo Designs, Ex-corporate international market researcher turned dynamic entrepreneur in the fashion accessories industry, grew sales for her start-up company from $0 to half a million in less than 3 years, generated 500+ wholesale customers, and developed oovoo into a nationally-recognized brand within the competitive retail industry. Pauline partnered with Intuit to launch nationwide the JustStart campaign. She created successful PR campaigns including placements of oovoo products in TIME magazine, Washington Post magazine and Redbook. A 2006 winner of the Make Mine a Million Award from American Express OPEN.
Julie Lenzer Kirk, President of Path Forward, harnesses her experience as a successful and award-winning IT entrepreneur to assist others in realizing their dream of entrepreneurship and taking their already-established entrepreneurial companies to the next level. She is an in-demand professional speaker and the author of "The ParentPreneur Edge: What Parenting Teaches About Building a Successful Business". She works with the NSF-funded ACTiVATE program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Through this program, she helps experienced women start businesses by licensing technologies from universities and government labs. As the Lead Instructor, she develops the curriculum for the program as well as mentors several of the teams.
Katie Knowlin, Assistant Director of the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development and Head of the Division of Business Empowerment, is dedicated to empowering small, minority and women owned businesses in Montgomery County. The Business Empowerment Division includes Small Business Services, Women and Minority Business Services, the Local Small Business Reserve Program, Outreach Services, the Business Innovation Network and the Microenterprise Program. Montgomery County is a major economic powerhouse within the state and region, and Katie Knowlin works to assure that business owners of diverse backgrounds share in the expanding economy of Montgomery County as a top priority.
Mary Foley is a keynote speaker, consultant, and author. A bodacious entrepreneur with a reputation for spunk and experience, Mary is the "Woman in Charge" of Bodacious! Ventures, a company dedicated to inspiring women to find the inner courage, knowledge, and tools to create the lives and careers they love! Frances Crespo, Founder — The Full Cup, and Ladies Who Launch Regional Director — Metro DC (VA/DC/MD)
After two decades in the Navy and Navy Reserve as a Navy lieutenant commander, Frances Crespo is the Owner of The Full Cup, a European bra-fitting salon with two locations in Virginia Beach and Alexandria, Va. Frances grew up in Puerto Rico, joined the military in 1987, raised a son and daughter as a single parent, and earned a BS in Business Administration and a Masters in Education. Frances, believing that she had a winning idea for a business, risked it all, including selling her house to use the funds to open up The Full Cup. Making a difference in women's lives is important to Frances. In addition to her Full Cup responsibilities, she mentors other businesswomen through an organization called Ladies Who Launch. Ladies Who Launch provides content and community to help women start and expand their businesses and creative ventures. Through events, e-mail newsletter, Website, and in-person Incubator programs, the organization provides a venue for women to exchange products and services, ideas, and strategic relationships. Frances Crespo is the Regional Director for the Metro DC Incubator for Ladies Who Launch.
Christine Copple, Ph.D., is President and CEO of Starise Ventures, Inc. Starise provides team-based services to entrepreneurs and investors
designed to mitigate the intrinsic risks of translating biomedical
discoveries from bench to bedside. Previously she was President and
CEO of ASM Resources, Inc. the venture arm of the American Society for
Microbiology. With over twenty years as a senior executive in
biotechnology growth companies, Dr. Copple has experience in early-stage investing, public offerings,
private/venture investments, joint ventures, licensing and partnering,
public corporate reporting, public relations, investor relations,
international marketing, product development, regulatory affairs,
legislative affairs, facilities design/build-out and training
entrepreneurs.
Chris was the Chief Operating Officer at Neuralstem, Inc., an emerging company commercializing a central nervous system stem cell technology platform. Before joining Neuralstem she ran the Office of Industry Liaison for the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute where she provided entrepreneurial guidance and services for faculty and start-up companies. For ten years prior to relocating to Maryland, Dr. Copple was VP of Marketing & Investor relations for the Boston public company Microfluidics International.
